A vacancy exists for a Technical Supervisor reporting to the Hospital Manager. This job exists to provide leadership, technical direction and guidance to the hospital technical function. This entails ensuring that the maintenance and operation of movable and immovable plant and equipment as well as execution of infrastructure and construction projects in hospital is carried out in an effective, safe and compliant manner that is aligned to applicable best practices and legislation. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management, maintenance and co-ordination of all major facets associated with medical technology within the hospital.
Critical Outputs
• Manage the hospital maintenance department such as implementation of the maintenance management strategy and best practices to maximise overall plant and machinery and equipment efficiency (OPEE).
• Responsible for the hard facility management and/or building services activities which include HVAC system, Plumbing, electrical including plant and machinery, CCTV, Fire System, Backup water system, Public Address System, etc.
• Develop and implement a preventative maintenance plan and associated costs and ensure it is in use for maintenance requirements and intervals as per the manufacturer recommended preventive maintenance/service requirements. This is to ensure minimum disruption or unavailability of facilities and services to customers.
• Responsible for ensuring that service records are maintained according to equipment requirements and legal requirements.
• Management and compliance to prescribed regulations of the OHS Act, SANS, Municipal Bylaws, R158 and group policy and procedures.
• Provide a 24hr standby service to always ensure the availability of essential services for all stakeholders.
• Responsible for the management and re-evaluation and update the Hospital Technical department Risk Assessment and development of control measures.
• Responsible for the compilation and management of hospital assets, loan and demo equipment.
• Responsible for asset management and ensure that a six-monthly asset verification is conducted in collaboration with the Finance department.
• Management of technical incidents and investigate root causes and develop corrective actions.
• Develop and implement Job card system and ensure that job cards throughout the hospital.
• Able to perform basic load calculation in order to determine the load required for applicable supply.
• Manage all aspects of the team (i.e. performance, recruitment, development and retention).
• Perform administrative functions (i.e. reviewing and writing performance reports, document management, data analysis, validating expenditures, enforcing rules, and support decisions about key engineering projects).
• Prepare and responsible for maintenance department budgets, drive contract negotiations and address any engineering project disputes.
• Ensuring customer satisfaction survey is conducted on a regular basis and ensure requirements/complaints are identified, investigated, acted upon and managed appropriately.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in electrical (Heavy Current) Engineering with a minimum of 3 years in hospital maintenance or Technical and/or engineering department and projects.
• Practical experience in the hospital environment is essential.
• Proven leadership and people management experience.
• Knowledge of contracts negotiation and management, OHS Act regulation, facilities management, financial, project management and engineering procurement practices.
• Computer proficiency.
• Experience and understanding of expansion and refurbishment projects and the outputs thereof.
