An employment opportunity is available at Eden Gardens Private Hospital for a Clinical Engineering Technician, reporting to the Technical Services Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and co-ordination of all major facets associated with medical equipment technology within the hospital.
Critical Outputs
Medical Equipment Asset Management and Maintenance:
• Create and maintain an accurate asset register relating to all medical equipment.
• Provide guidance and leadership to management and Doctors in determining medical equipment
• Replacement requirements for the hospital.
• Perform first line repairs, modifications and installations on equipment, utilizing the necessary test equipment, in accordance with the standards and recommendations of original equipment
• Manufacturers (OEM) and/or governing agencies.
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections of equipment in line with manufacturers (OEM) and/or
• Governing agencies specifications and also in line with best practice and relevant policies.
• Control and manage all maintenance work conducted by suppliers/agencies and ensure that the work done is up to the required standard.
• Obtain and perform pre-acceptance inspections according to ECRI standards on new, demo and • loan equipment
• Implement the equipment commissioning process for new equipment in line with the relevant policies and best practice.
• Avail yourself for training by the OEMs in order to attain the necessary accreditation required to be able to sign off on certificates of compliance.
Acquisition of Medical Equipment:
• Advise and guide management and Doctors in the in the selection and acquisition of medical
• Equipment technology that is fit for purpose and application, and up-to-date with current
• Developments and best practices in the healthcare field.
• Consult with Doctors, Nurses and peers in the field, to evaluate equipment and determine the correct specifications and standards of the required equipment for the hospital.
• Advise and guide management in the Capex process.
• Understand and manage lease and rental agreements as applied to the hospital
• Advise and guide management and Doctors with the ‘supply chain management’ of medical equipment for all growth/new projects as per the needs of the hospital.
• Conduct on-going Training Needs analysis for all users of medical equipment in the hospital.
• Ensure that all users – staff and Doctors, are well trained on how to use all the medical equipment in the hospital.
• Conduct the training in person, and also arrange with vendors to perform such training where needed for the hospital users.
Maintain high professional standards:
• Ensure own professional growth and development through professional affiliations, conferences and ;
• Available resources, to stay updated within the clinical engineering field.
• Be the hospital’s advisor on the latest trends in the field of Clinical Engineering.
Requirements
• National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (light current) majoring in Clinical Engineering / National • Diploma in Clinical / Bio medical engineering or relevant NQF Level 6 Qualification.
• 3 years’ experience as a Clinical Technician or equivalent in a private hospital environment.
• Experience in maintenance of medical equipment in a clinical environment.
• Member of the Clinical Engineering Association of South Africa (CEASA).
• Experience within, and understanding of the private healthcare industry.
• Computer proficiency.
• Exposure to planned maintenance and maintenance budgets will be an added advantage.
• Driver’s licence and ability to travel.
